When you’re writing a thesis, don’t bore us by sharing only what others have already said; but don’t blast us with your own ideas without any sense of what others have to say.
Yes, there is charity in clarity! Writing clearly means taking a point of view (which, when done well, is not the same as being full of yourself). Writing clearly also means thinking slowly enough for your reader to follow you.
When it comes to writing, don’t do as Bojack Horseman (Netflix) did that time he spent the day messing with fonts instead of writing. But do take time to create materials for thinking–like the above ideas-map I drew to help my students track their intersecting thesis topics.
